Story:
The immortal, dark sorcerer Jolly James Hook has traveled to our dimension in search of the power of the gods.  He has learned that the final resting place of the God of Insanity resides within our domain.  With a sacrifice in tow, Jolly James Hook aims to wake the God of Insanity and acquire it's power of control over reality.   Heroes and villains will clash in an epic struggle to aid, or stop Jolly James Hook in his quest for ultimate power.

I am currently developing V3.0 of Immortal Fray with polished graphics and new features.  In order to get to this point I reached out to the community for their opinions.  I held polls for character designs that were most successful, and once I had a good idea on the art style that marketed well with people, I went ahead and finalized the rest of my playable roster for the game.

Iteration is the name of the game

I develop several pieces of concept art before I move forward.  Then I create a model sheet to build the 3d asset off of.

I am an avid fighting game fan and I am trying to deliver my own unique experience to the genre.  This game is basically everything I love about fighting games combined into one story.  I am reaching out to the SRK community for feedback and opinions on my journey through this game's development.  I plan to release version 2.0 of the prototype around September so stay tuned!

Re: Immortal Fray: The Rise of Cthulhu

Amazing work!

Does anyone else struggle with coming up with titles for their games? I'm still using the descriptive 'Arena Fighter'. big_smile

Re: Immortal Fray: The Rise of Cthulhu

@Mistermind - Thank you very much!  Im waiting for the update before I make more trailers because I want to show off alternate costumes/ moves that change textures/ and wall bouncing.  After the next update and development cycle I plan to put the demo out for everyone to download.  Ill make sure to include the UFE animation in the next two trailers.

@Steviebops - Thank you!  When I get stuck i tend to look up words in latin on google.  If that doesn't work i throw a bunch of interesting words into seperate piles and combine them.  If the game has a unified theme however, it's not so hard.  I.e. immortal fairytail characters duking it out

Re: Immortal Fray: The Rise of Cthulhu

Did you use fraps to capture your video? Im looking to record a vid to show what Ive done with the 3d arena stuff, so everyone's clear on the concept. Im thinking fraps for capture, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone has alternate suggestions.

Re: Immortal Fray: The Rise of Cthulhu

No, I used a program called Dxtory.  I would recommend that program over Fraps any day.  Set up is a little complicated because you have to download a certain video and audio codec to get smooth frame rate, but in the end its very worth it.  If you have a fast machine however, you probably don't have to worry about the taxing setup

Re: Immortal Fray: The Rise of Cthulhu

Nice, thanks for the tip!

This video is not a full gameplay trailer.  Just a test for setting up the flow of the actual gameplay trailer and testing out the recording quality of Dxtory

Re: Immortal Fray: The Rise of Cthulhu

looks pretty cool! particulary the 3d animated models in the character selection screen.... how did you make the custom sound for the selected character?

AWESOME

Me encontraste en un negro camino como un peregrino sin rumbo ni fe, pero la luz de tus ojos divinos cambió mi suerte por dicha y placer.

Re: Immortal Fray: The Rise of Cthulhu

Thank you StriderSpinel smile.  The custom sound was easy.  I made a public audio clip in the CharacterEditorWindow.cs script and called it once the olayer selects a character in the characterselection.cs Script.  Basically, I followed this tutorial and it gave me everything I needed

Re: Immortal Fray: The Rise of Cthulhu

Have you considered cel shading? Seems like a matching style for your game.

Re: Immortal Fray: The Rise of Cthulhu

Yup, Im switching over to cel shading once I have my new character rigs complete.  Right not my characters have transparency in their materials and it doent look right with the toon shaders so im redesigning them for the next version of the demo.

Vote at the link below!

strawpoll.me/4238693

So Ive finished the first draft concept for captain hook.

  • A - Young James - Inspired by Once Upon A Time

  • B - Vega Mask James - Inspired by Vega from Street Fighter

  • C - Evil Sea Captain James - Inspired by Moby Dick

  • D - Jolly Clown James - I always thought evil clowns were cool

  • E - Userper James - Inspired by Cervantes from Soul Calibur

  • F - Powerful Sorcerer James - Inspired by Ganondorf from the Legend of Zelda

  • G - Oni James - Original Creation

  • H - Intergalactic Sorcerer James - Inspired by Dragonball Z

I would love for all of you to vote and choose which design you like best smile

You can vote multiple times, and I dont plan on having two different body types in the game.

What that means is if one body type gets more votes than the other, then I will choose the two

most popular designs from that body type.  Hope that makes sense.  So please cast your votes!
