Topic: Cannot Find Characters?

Hi,

I'm finding it hard to find decent characters out there to include in own version of the game
Can someone help me with this, willing to pay for character assets of course.
I just dont have time to make own characters.
Think to include many maybe 10 to start off with.

Thanks

Re: Cannot Find Characters?

Have you looked at the Asset Store?  There's an MMA pack currently for $45 if that's not over your budget.

https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/18470

Also check out the 3D Model\Character\Humanoids section.  There's a bunch of free models, but most don't have animations.  But they're all mecanim compatible, so not a problem adding your own animations to them.

Re: Cannot Find Characters?

I really wish to go for Human Characters, sorry did not mention this.
How about this: http://3drt.com/store/characters/bikers-gang-pack.html
Will it work, what do you feel?

Re: Cannot Find Characters?

Oh, sorry.  I forgot to mention last time.  If you grab the MMA pack (which I recommend for it's high quality animations), then you'll still need models.  There are a few free human models packs from the same guys:

https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/127

https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/124

https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/122

The MMA animations will work with any models that are mecanim compatible, so all the above should work.

That bikers gang pack looks OK and does come in many formats.  But there's no way to confirm if it's mecanim compatible or not.  If it's not compatible, you're potentially wasting money on animations you can't use.

Mecanim isn't the only way to have animations of course, as UFE does support legacy animation system.

The pack will "work", but that depends on what you mean by "will it work".  Any 3D model with any animation/rig system will work.  But if it's not mecanim compatible, then it won't offer you the nice mecanim features (easily share animations between models, get animations from mixamo store, visual blend trees for custom animations etc).

Re: Cannot Find Characters?

Hey, I bought the MMA pack, but my concern is will it work with mobile as I plan to make a mobile game?

The problem with the packs below is they are 1 character, I will need more than one as I wish to create something like the Mortal Kombat game on iOS. Usually a collection of characters from same person is best.

I keep searching for ideas and email the author of the pack

Thank you for helping me with this.

Re: Cannot Find Characters?

The Unity docs say less than 30 bones per character with 300 - 1500 polygon count per mesh.

http://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/Modeling … cters.html

I think if you're doing a fighting game, you can get away with more of each as long as your backgrounds don't have any bones (or very minimal).  Also, I think those figures are a few years old now so current gen can probably run a bit more.

I thought I read once that for Unity Mobile there was an actual max limit of bones per mesh (something like 55 I think), but I could just be remembering something else entirely so don't quote me on that.

Anyway, the best thing you can do is just test it yourself.  I know I've gotten more than 30 bones on a mesh with a simple rag doll test for mobile before, so you should be right.

Re: Cannot Find Characters?

Yes with Unity 4.5 out now and plus I have all the latest mobile devices at home updated to newest firmware.
To me hardware tests are the best and I usually conduct these, as long as I can get the game play correct, then optimizing for mobile is a whole new thing but getting better at it through experience. I'm glad this kit uses Control Freak for mobile as I have used it before.

Just a update I bought the biker gang set and the author said he will update them with mecanim support which is great for me.

Jut waiting now for the next major update of this kit then start work
