Topic: Multiple Rigged meshes in one character

I have some characters well just use one as an example

One of my Characters is actually Twins thus it's two characters acting as one character.

(Like Ice Climbers from Smash Bros, or Terra/Torr From Mortal Kombat)

What I want to set up with this character in particular. Is
Stance changing which character is the leader (this part is easy nd I have no problem with it)

The problem is I want the Characters to have some form of Independence of each other.

Like if I'm in Stance 1 I can tell the other to do a support move and my recovery is independent of the support recovery.

Ex.

Tell support to run forward and do a flying kick.
While support  is still running my recovery is over so I can move now
But my support is still in startup frames.

If that didn't make any sense
Please look up Ken Amada in Persona 4 Ultimax
His animations are completely independent of the dogs animations

I believe you would have to model and animate them together before importing to unity. That way they would behave as one character.

Theirs a problem I run into doing it that way.

I can't do certain things using that method.
